Being a photographer is about BEING a photographer. Many talented shooters have used intentionally crappy plastic Diana or Holga cameras, complete with light leaks. Shooting with crap really allows us to focus solely on the image. The iPhone is actually a stunning little crappy device. The results aren’t huge, but they’re beautiful. You know what? I think that you could put at portfolio together, using just an iPhone. Have a look at iphoneography.com for more info.
I’m always amazed by that particular somethin’ that comes out of an iPhone camera. The spontaneity of it adds an element, I’m sure, but there’s something about the image that’s a bit, woodsy, I guess. Like an old acoustic guitar.
Here’s a couple of shots from the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. These are SO much better than the 5d Mark 2. Why? Because the 5D was back at the studio. Lesson learned.
